NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon 2026

This April, I’ll be running the NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon to raise money for a cause that means a great deal to me. I’ll be joining my colleagues at Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) to run and raise money to support our Critical Items Fund and advocacy efforts to reform, eliminate and reduce the harmful impacts of the 
criminal legal, family policing and immigration systems. 

As you may know, BDS is a public defense office whose mission is to provide outstanding representation and advocacy free of cost to people facing loss of freedom, family separation and other serious legal harms. In July 2025, BDS expanded our criminal and adolescent defense services into Queens. After 30 years of experience and expertise serving Brooklyn, we are proud to bring the same dedication and excellence to communities across the borough of Queens.

Contributions will help sustain our Critical Items Fund, which provides BDS clients with essential resources like phones, transportation, clothing, and assistance covering costly immigration application fees. Additionally, funds raised will support our systemic 
advocacy efforts and allow us to expand our community education initiatives which empower New Yorkers with the legal education and resources they need to protect their rights when it matters the most.
