NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon 2025

Dear Friends and Family,

As I lace up for the upcoming Brooklyn Half Marathon on April 27, 2025, my heart is heavy yet hopeful. I'm not just running for my well-being; It’s for a cause deeply personal to me – to raise funds for the Korean K9 Rescue (KK9R); an organization that rescues dogs from in South Korea’s high kill shelters. 
 

Throughout my life, I've opened my home to numerous rescue dogs. I would like to dedicate this story to Dino, a strong pregnant mom rescued from Vietnam. She sadly crossed the bridge in April last year. Despite being diagnosed with final stage bone cancer at the tender age of three, Dino's grace and resilience taught us lessons about endurance and love. Our family did everything to comfort her—from meticulously feeding her to adventures outdoors. Even through her pain, she still wiggled her tail ever so slightly. In her final days, as she looked into my father’s tear-filled eyes, we knew she understood our silent pleas for more time.

Dino's journey was not merely about her struggles but about finding joy in hardship. This inspires me to live fully and graciously.

Since its founding, KK9R has placed over 3,500 dogs in forever homes across the tri-state area. By running this marathon, I am to honor Dino’s legacy and support KK9R in giving dogs a chance at a better life. It’s about turning personal loss into communal gain, transforming grief into proactive charity.

제 인생 동안, 저는 수많은 구조견들에게 제 집을 열어주었습니다. 이 이야기를 베트남에서 구조된 강한 임신한 엄마견 '디노'에게 바치고 싶습니다. 디노는 지난해 4월에 다리를 건넜습니다. 겨우 세 살의 어린 나이에 말기 골암으로 진단받았음에도 불구하고, 디노의 용기와 인내는 우리에게 교훈을 주었습니다. 우리 가족은 그녀를 위해 모든 것을 했습니다 - 정성껏 먹이를 주고 야외 모험을 하는 것 등. 그녀의 고통 속에서도 그녀는 아주 조금씩 꼬리를 흔들곤 했습니다. 그녀의 마지막 날들에, 그녀가 아버지의 눈물 가득한 눈을 바라보았을 때, 우리는 그녀가 우리의 묵묵한 기도를 이해한다는 것을 알았습니다.

디노의 여정은 그녀의 고난에 관한 것만이 아니었습니다. 그것은 고난 속에서 기쁨을 찾는 것에 대한 이야기였습니다. 이는 저에게 충실히 살아가고 은혜로워지라는 영감을 줍니다.

KK9R이 설립된 이래로, 이 단체는 삼주 지역에 3,500마리가 넘는 개들을 영원한 가정으로 보내주었습니다. 이 마라톤을 달리면서, 저는 디노의 유산을 기리고 KK9R이 개들에게 더 나은 삶의 기회를 줄 수 있도록 지원하려고 합니다. 이것은 개인적인 손실을 공동체적인 이득으로, 슬픔을 적극적인 자선으로 변화시키는 것에 대한 것입니다.
