NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon 2025

I’m supporting Korean K9 Rescue.
As many of you know, my sister Sam lost her battle to lung cancer this past fall. There are no words to describe the void that is left without her presence. I miss her voice, I miss her laugh, I even miss our little arguments. As I continue to reflect on what Sam has taught me and continues to teach me the one thing I have been coming back to is resilience. It took a hell of a lot of it for her to face each day with her disease. Resilience was also a constant theme in Sam’s true passion, animal rescue. Day after day Sam would rehome animals with some of the worst cases of abuse only for them to flourish in a home with a loving environment. I believe it’s the work Sam had done throughout her life saving animals that helped give her strength to go toe-to-toe with cancer. When I found out that Korean K9 was dedicating their inaugural run in the Brooklyn Half Marathon to Sam I immediately thought, “Zach you have to run this!”. After some thought (and a lot of persuasion), I decided to run this half alongside my friends and family to honor Sam and the cause that she dedicated her life to, until the end of her days.
Please consider making a donation – there is no amount that is too small that won’t make a difference to these dogs that are in need.
Every day is a reminder that Sam is no longer with us. I find peace in the fact that her legacy lives on every time an animal gets the home they truly deserve.
