The better question is: Why have I waited this long to do this?

The world we live in today often encourages selfishness and individualism. We are so consumed by our possessions, material pursuits, and personal pleasures that we forget to look around us. We pass by a homeless person and ignore their struggle, becoming numb to the pain and suffering of others. But as Muslims, we are called to be better—to be compassionate, generous, and proactive in easing the burdens of others.

As Ramadan begins tomorrow, I am reflecting deeply on how I can become more aware of my surroundings and give back as an active member of this society. This run is my way of taking action, of stepping up to make a difference, and of fulfilling the teachings of our faith.

Now, let me be honest with you: I hate running. Like, really hate it. I’m too lazy for it, and the thought of running long distances usually makes me want to take a nap instead. But here’s the thing—I’m pushing myself to get back into it, not for the finish line (though I do love that finish line effect!), but for the greater good. This time, it’s not about the race; it’s about the purpose behind it.

My motivation comes from the beautiful words of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):
“Whoever relieves a hardship for a believer in this world, Allah will relieve one of his hardships on the Day of Resurrection.” (Sahih Muslim)

This Hadith reminds me that every small act of kindness, every effort to help others, is a step toward earning Allah’s mercy and blessings. By supporting this cause, you are not only helping those in need but also planting seeds of goodness that will benefit us all in the Hereafter.
