I am proud to run in support of Understood.org, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering the 1 in 5 children with learning and thinking differences such as ADHD and dyslexia. As a school counselor in New York State, I see every day how essential it is for our education system to truly understand and support students who learn differently. When children are given the right tools and encouragement, they gain confidence and begin to recognize their strengths.

Understanding learning differences is key to creating equitable opportunities in education. Research shows that movement and exercise strengthen areas of the brain connected to executive function, working memory, and cognitive flexibility, skills often impacted by ADHD. Every mile we run represents progress toward a future where children with learning differences are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.

Last year, more than 80,000 New Yorkers turned to Understood for trusted, expert backed resources designed by educators and clinicians. I am running to ensure that more children feel seen, supported, and empowered, not defined by their challenges but uplifted by their potential. With continued support, Understood can expand its reach and ensure that every learner and thinker has access to the tools they need to succeed at school, at home, and beyond.
