NYCRUNS Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon 2026
I’m supporting Brooklyn Defender Services.
Hi friends and family,
I decided to run this half marathon to raise money for the Client Essentials Fund at Brooklyn Defender Services, where I am a Staff Attorney representing New Yorkers in ICE detention as part of the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project. The Client Essentials Fund is what it sounds like - because my office only represents New Yorkers who cannot afford a lawyer, clients often need extra support besides the legal representation we provide.
When our clients are released from ICE detention, they're not provided with any warm clothing, a cell phone, money for the subway, food, etc -- they often arrive back in New York City after being detained in Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, or elsewhere with only a plastic bag of legal papers. So the money might go to a client's coat, clothes for court, or other things to help them get back on their feet after being detained.
Many of our clients reside in the shelter system too, and even if they have a roof over their heads they still often have to buy clothes, diapers, baby formula, food, school supplies for kids, and other essentials.
The limits of what our clients need is really endless, so I appreciate any support you can provide. This will be the first half marathon I've ever run and raising money for Brooklyn Defender Services clients like this is a big motivation!
