For 41 years, VOLS has helped New Yorkers to access justice by partnering with New York City's leading law firms, companies, and community-based organizations. VOLS provides free civil legal services to New Yorkers with limited resources, including older adults, veterans, small business owners, individuals seeking public benefits, incarcerated mothers, and immigrant young people, children and their families. Our vision is access to justice for every New Yorker.
Volunteers of Legal Service’s (VOLS) proven approach is high impact. Last year, our legal advice and education benefited over 6,400 low-income, underserved New Yorkers. VOLS model is to identify civil legal challenges facing New Yorkers, collaborate with community-based organizations, mobilize pro bono volunteers from leading law firms and companies, and get to work. Your partnership with VOLS helps to change lives. We’re proud to share some examples of our work:
- An older adult with stage 4 cancer ensured his medical and financial choices would be honored and his children empowered to protect his rights.
- A newsstand owner navigated complicated regulations to restore his livelihood.
- A family with a medically fragile child got critically needed repairs made by their landlord.
- A mother and her young son reunited for the first time in two years.
- A young immigrant graduated from high school on the path to permanent residency.
- A disabled man facing a rent hike accessed public benefits and kept his home.
Your decision to support VOLS means you understand the power of access to a high-quality, free attorney. We are grateful for your partnership!
