Brooklyn Defender Services is a public defense office whose mission is to provide outstanding representation and advocacy free of cost to people facing loss of freedom, family separation and other serious legal harms.
For over 25 years, BDS has worked, in and out of court, to protect and uphold the rights of individuals and to change laws and systems that perpetuate injustice and inequality. We are proud to serve nearly 23,000 people each year. Our approach to public defense is to offer complete defense with a wide range of support including advocacy, social work services and access to critical resources that people and families need to stay together and thrive.
Many of the people we represent are experiencing housing and food insecurity, health concerns, and other difficult circumstances. Your contribution will help to sustain our Critical Items Fund, which provides clients with essential resources like phones, transportation, clothing, and assistance covering costly immigration application fees.
Funds raised will also support our advocacy efforts to reform, eliminate and reduce the harmful impacts of the criminal legal, family policing and immigration systems. With your support, we can continue to expand our community education initiatives, empowering New Yorkers with the legal education and resources they need to protect their rights when it matters the most.
Your support is essential to our success and enables us to stand by the people we serve every day. Together, we can continue to assist people navigating complex systems while connecting them to the resources and services they need to stay safe and healthy.
Will you help us support New Yorkers in need with a donation today?
