Stella Adler Studio of Acting

About

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that nurtures theatre artists and audiences who value humanity, while providing art and education to the greater community. In addition to a world-renowned professional conservatory, the Studio offers multiple free programs that provide transformative educational experiences to New York’s most underserved citizens, like those impacted by poverty and who are justice-involved.

While the studio is well-known for its conservatory training and world-class faculty, its commitment to accessibility extends to seeking community support for free programs and initiatives that emphasize inclusivity. This includes a renowned Art Series offering free concerts, theater, dance, and lectures to the public, as well as the Stella Adler Arts Justice Division, an entirely free program across New York City.

The Stella Adler Arts Justice Division has served nearly 7,000 people via free programs since it was created in 2001. Through this programming, the Studio uses theater and education to uplift and empower people in New York City who are experiencing extreme poverty, deeply segregated schools and inequities that we find unacceptable. Arts Justice democratizes access to the arts by tearing down financial, cultural and physical barriers. This program allows us to address the relationship between art and social justice and to build the world we want to live in tomorrow, today. You can read more about the impact of this work in On Rikers: An Oral History, Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us, Applied Theatre: Women and the Criminal Justice System.
